Scott Sorkin bio

Scott Sorkin is a Bay Area guitarist, composer, producer, teacher and clinician, and recording and mixing engineer (BS in Jazz from San José State University). He performs and records in formats ranging from solo, duo, trio, to large group settings, in jazz, Brazilian, and latin styles.

Scott’s latest CD “Laika” was released in 2017.

Teaching Credits include Stanford University – Adjunct teacher music theory, faculty clinician at Stanford Jazz Workshop 2009-present; guitar masterclasses, ensemble performance, music theory, music technology, faculty & jazz festival performances.

San Jose Jazz Summer Camp – Taught improvisation, ensemble performance, guitar masterclass, music theory. Developed and taught Music Technology class, integrating the instruction of music technology into the summer jazz curriculum utilizing recording and scoring software to enable the students to compose and produce a movie score.

Scott has been a clinician for San Jose State University, Mission College, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, The Siskiyou Institute, Selkirk College, Los Gatos Music & Arts, The Mountain View Community School of Music & Arts, and is a co-founder of the South Bay Summer Jazz Intensive (SBSJI.org).

Vancouver Jazz Festival, and the Festival International De Jazz De Montreal, Montreal, Quebec.

Scott can be seen in concert at venues across the US, including Jazz Alley, The Triple Door, Bake’s Place, the Royal Room, Ballard Jam House, Café Pink House, California Jazz Conservatory, SFJazz, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Yoshi’s, The Sound Room, Piedmont Piano Company, Impulse Room, and at local gigs at the Hedley Club at the Hotel De Anza, Rosewood Sand Hill, Los Altos Grill, Marin Country Mart, San Jose Hyatt, San Jose Fairmont, Bubble Lounge, SP2, Claremont Hotel, Sand Dollar, 71 St. Peter in San José, and many other venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
